These drawings were made at my lola’s (grandmother) home while I was living with her during the implementations of shelter in place in Santa Cruz County. In the process for each drawing, I laid a sheet of paper on the ground just before a shadow appeared over it. As soon as the shadow/s emerged I wrote the time on the bottom of the sheet then traced the shadow with a graphite pencil. I repeated this process as the sun shifted throughout the course of the day, changing the directionality & composition of the shadows as it moved across the sky. The drawings were completed as soon as there were no more shadows to be traced.
